Mendota Elementary
Mendota Elementary sits on Madison’s north side, one block off Northport Drive near Warner Park. In 2016 it became one of MMSD’s first two Community Schools. About 300 students in 4K through 5th grade attend Mendota, and their families come from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, racial, and economic backgrounds.

Mendota staff build strong relationships with students, families, and neighbors. We hold every student to high academic and behavioral expectations, and we believe every student can meet them.
What Makes Mendota Elementary Unique
Mendota puts students at the center of its work.
- As a Community School, Mendota works with community partners to meet needs that students and families identify. Every morning, the school hosts a community breakfast for all students and staff.
- Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) runs Safe Haven and AACE (After-school Academic Clubs for Excellence) at Mendota. The program serves more than 100 students after school and runs an all-day summer camp.
- “Kids Days Out” give families all-day care during school breaks.
- Mendota hosts at least one artist in residence every year and takes part in Disney Musicals in Schools.
