Emerson Elementary Receives Surprise Equipment Donation

MADISON, Wis. (Ch. 3000) — A new initiative backed by Milwaukee Bucks player and Madison native Wesley Matthews kicked off Wednesday.

The Madison Public Schools Foundation launched its “Play Every Day” Campaign at Emerson Elementary School in a mission to improve students’ lives through physical activity.

“This is our effort to support our schools through equipment for P.E., for recess, we’re really just trying to make it easier for kids to get active and be healthy, which of course supports their learning in the classroom,” said Laurie Stensland, who is the Madison Public Schools Foundation’s associate director of community partnerships.

The campaign works with Matthews, who has already donated $100,000 to the foundation.

“He is our champion donor, so a lot of this is made possible through his support,” Stensland said.

Kids were jumping with joy and yelling upon seeing the new equipment that was donated Wednesday morning, which included various sports balls, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, and even parachutes.
