Legacy Circle members are upholding public education in Madison for future generations.
About the Legacy Circle Program
The Schools Make Madison Legacy Circle was founded as a way to declare your support of a strong public education system for generations to come. Legacy Circle members understand that strong schools are necessary for a thriving community and to building brighter futures for all students. This group has made it known to us that they have included the Madison Public Schools Foundation in their estate plans.
Member Stories
Together we have collectively committed 51 years of our working lives invested in the children and families of the Madison Metropolitan School District. We like many of you have important family connections to the future citizens of our state and we plan to continue our investment in their education.
Doug served as MMSD superintendent from 1967 to 1980. Over his tenure, he worked tirelessly to promote learning opportunities for all students and teachers.
Along the way, Patricia supported Doug in all his efforts to ensure a thriving Madison public school system. She was, in the words of her son, John, the “Superintendent of our Family, managing the household with five children.”
Ensuring future generations have the same or better opportunities than I did is why I serve on the board of Madison Public Schools Foundation and have committed to a planned gift through the Foundation’s Legacy Circle program. There’s no greater legacy than changing the lives of students.
As products of public schools – Mark from the Appleton (WI) Area School District and Melinda from Shelbyville (IN) Central Schools – they wanted to express their gratitude for these experiences and to support Sullivan’s “home district,” the Madison Metropolitan School District. Designating the Madison Public Schools Foundation for a bequest was the perfect way to accomplish their charitable goals.
Strong community support is vital for thriving schools and thriving communities.
Thank you to our Legacy Circle Members for investing in Madison’s future.

A Legacy Gift from the Helen Boley Estate
“The Helen Boley Estate gift allowed us to be creative and engage our community in planning for Leopold in ways that build community and develop trust among many stakeholders. Without this gift, we would not be able to engage in innovative thinking that is based on our equity vision and beliefs”
Peg Keeler, Retired Principal, Leopold Elementary
