Winter Coat Wonderland

Teacher Support Network uses $20,000 Gift to Purchase Winter Gear

Wisconsin winters can be harsh, and many family budgets fall short of their ability to provide adequate outdoor clothing for walking to school and getting outdoors at recess. Physical activity and time in nature contribute to positive health and psychological well-being.

That’s is why our Teacher Support Network chose to use a recent $20,000 gift to purchase Lands’ End boots, snow pants, socks, gloves and mittens, which have been distributed throughout the district.

Jen Nadolski of Sherman Middle School reiterated the importance of students having proper winter clothes:

“Warmth is wealth at Sherman Middle School,” where 63% of scholars are low-income. When a donation comes into the school that will benefit our scholars in any way, especially winter gear in below-freezing weather, it warms up the staff. Like the sun shining upon us as these items make their way from the front office to the student services room, and then to the school social worker, the big warmth comes when the student lights up upon receiving a simple and essential resource like gloves or mittens to keep their hands warm. Bottom line, the entire staff lights up and warms up when good news of students’ resources and support directly benefit scholars.”
